John Green is a successful young adult writer whose best-selling books include The Fault in Our Stars and Turtles All the Way Down. Three of his books have been made into movies or TV series. I recently listened to the audio version of his book of personal essays, written for adults, called The Anthropocene Reviewed. It is his first book of non-fiction, published in 2021, and I think it’s wonderful. Green is the reader, and it was inspired by his podcast of the same name. He reviews different aspects of the human experience that he personally relates to and gives each a 1 to 5-star rating. He has unique insights and perspectives, and a great sense of humor. As he says “I wanted to articulate some of the ways I’ve worked my way back toward hope over the last few years. I think hope is the correct response to consciousness.” I listened to it on an audio book I borrowed through the app Libby from my library at home. Green is the reader, and I loved it. $17.99
A website called A Continuous Lean has a list of all American-made products they think are well-made and good value. My husband particularly likes the companies that make men’s products. It’s called The American List.
Tim Urban of the explainer site Wait But Why asked his Twitter followers “What’s your favorite mindblowing fact?” Some sample replies:
- The moon and the sun are exactly the same size as seen from Earth
- Reno, Nevada is west of Los Angeles
- There is someone alive today who can honestly say “Thomas Jefferson said to my grandfather…”
- Sharks are older than trees
It’s fun to browse through all the answers
