Sunglasses to suit your face shape

Round 

As a rule of thumb, sunnies that are the opposite shape to your face will probably suit you best. A round face is circular in shape and pretty much equal in width and length with softer features (think baby faces). When glasses hunting, it’s all about the angles. If you’re playing it safe choose a square frame (lucky for you they’re bang on trend this summer), or if you’re feeling a little daring try quirky geometric or triangle shapes to add definition to your cheekbones.

Style tip: Go bold! Thicker or bright coloured frames can also give the illusion of angles. 

Heart

Heart-shaped faces are widest across the brow, narrowest at the chin and usually have high cheekbones à la Scarlett Johansson (lucky you). Here you have two options to find your perfect pair – adding width to the bottom of your face, or creating the illusion of a narrower brow. For the former, opt for bottom-heavy frames to create a happy medium between your brow and chin. For the latter, stick to rounder shapes to draw attention away from your forehead. Oval is ideal if you’re afraid of looking like Ozzy Osbourne in full circle shades. 

Style tip: Steer clear of bright frames, they’ll only distract from your killer cheekbones. 

Square 

If you’re forehead, cheekbones and jawline are cut in a straight line then you’ve got a square face. Not the most flattering of adjectives, I know, but you’re in great company, twinning with JLo, Olivia Wilde and Jennifer Anniston. To soften your angles, opt for thinner, rounder shapes or choose frames that are wider than your cheekbones to create a more balanced shape up top. 

Style tip: Square faces typically have killer jaw lines, so make sure you hit those side angles in your holiday snaps. 

Diamond

Diamond types have a narrow forehead and jawline. Cheekbones are the focal point and are the widest part of the face. You’re going to want frames that will show them off. Cat eyes are a dead cert (think Dame Edna, but cooler), as well as small and round sunnies that follow the natural curves of your bone structure. 

Style tip: If you’ve got it, flaunt it – wear your hair up to show off your cheek bones. 

Oval

Oval faces are typically symmetrical and a little longer than they are wide. The holy grail of face shapes (give your parents a pat on the back), you can can pretty much get away with anything, so take your pick from any frames on the page. 

Style tip: Go big – oversized frames compliment oval face shapes well.
